in

Calgary, Canada, October 17, 2013 - Charity App Challenge launches pledgeCalgary, a web based interactive fundraising app that enables charities to expand their donor base by making fundraising entertaining. Using any device a person can log onto pledgeCalgary through their Facebook account and set up a fun activity challenge, they can invite their friends to support them and contribute to their favorite cause and then share their challenge through their Facebook network and drive donations in fun and entertaining ways. Challengers can select from a list of pre-approved charities, set their activity, funding goal and the duration of the campaign.

pledgeCalgary fans can search by popular challenges, newest challenges and highest pledged challenges to help them discover the causes they want to support and further share them with their social network. In an easy and fun manner challengers can use video to communicate their challenge. pledgeCalgary uses the power of social media to help raise awareness and funds for charity organizations.

There are over 86,000 registered charities in Canada and the average Canadian donates approximately $209 per year (www.place2give.com). pledgeCalgary helps charities reach a wider audience and keep their donor base engaged. Over 14 million Canadians use Facebook daily.

pledgeCalgary was born out of a unique community initiative in Calgary, called the Charity App Challenge. Founded by the Calgary Herald, Digital Alberta and Place2Give, the Charity App Challenge was a Hack-a-Thon to build technology solutions for the charitable sector. The 12 charities of the 2012 Calgary Herald Christmas Fundraiser were invited to participate in creating the ultimate solution that would help their organizations grow and engage both new and loyal supporters using creative and innovative technologies. DMG Marketing Solutions were the 1st place winner of the inaugural Hack-a-Thon, and with the dedicated efforts from the charities, founding partners and industry supporters, pledgeCalgary was created.

“We are so thrilled to launch pledgeCalgary it has been a fantastic experience and we are very proud of the end result”, said Gena Rotstein, CEO of Place2Give. “This is about making fundraising entertaining and engaging. Try a Dancewalk for 50 blocks through downtown Calgary, or bathe in a bath of baked beans. It’s about having fun and supporting great causes”, Ms. Rotstein explained.

“Our Club is thrilled to be a part of this opportunity. We are continuously seeking creative ways to engage our donors so that their contributions will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of our children and youth, said Andy Tse, Manager of Fund Development, Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary. “We know technology can help us reach our goals and this app is a fun and exciting way to do that!” Tse stated.
